Recently, at the 2023 Volvo Cars Asia Pacific Supplier Conference held in Sanya, Hainan, VREMT was awarded the “Award for Supply Chain Resilience” to recognize VREMT’s high adaptability, strong team collaboration, and continuous innovation in the face of difficulties and challenges.
Deepen Comprehensive Independent Research to Enhance Rapid Response Capabilities
In the increasingly competitive passenger car industry, the ability to seek opportunities in change, adjust strategies quickly, and continuously improve products and services has become a key factor in determining whether carmakers can survive. This also places higher demands on the resilience of the supply chains behind carmakers. The high resilience of car company supply chains comes from the accumulation and refinement of technology day after day, and the repeated tempering of production capacity.
Derived from Volvo Cars’ global new energy research and development department, VREMT has been researching the core EIC technologies with higher standards, broader global vision, and stronger safety genes. It has achieved independent research and development of core technologies of “software + hardware”, and achieved self-research and production in new energy power batteries, electric drive, charging, and energy storage in all areas.
Currently, VREMT has an innovative team of over 3,500 R&D personnel and has filed over 1,150 patents. It has also established R&D and production bases in Ningbo, Quzhou, and Hangzhou. Among them, the Quzhou Jidian EIC Intelligent Manufacturing Factory is the world’s largest comprehensive factory for intelligent manufacturing of EIC and energy storage systems. It is also a benchmark factory for new energy EIC systems that integrates intelligence, agility, and environmental friendliness.
With abundant R&D personnel and profound self-developed technology, combined with the production and manufacturing advantages of chain-end collaboration, VREMT demonstrates a high level of adaptability and problem-solving ability when facing difficulties and challenges, thus quickly responding to customer and market demands for optimization and iteration.
Deepen Industry-university-research Cooperation to Enhance Core Competitiveness
Behind the construction of a highly resilient industrial supply chain is VREMT’s strict selection of suppliers and its high regard for industry-university-research cooperation.
VREMT collaborates with the China Energy Research Society, China Battery Industry Association, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Materials Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other associations, universities, and research institutes to participate in industry-university-research projects, promoting continuous innovation and upgrading of new energy vehicle technology.
In terms of talent cultivation, VREMT actively promotes talent cultivation and technical services through cooperation with universities and research institutions, such as the joint establishment of the Geely New Energy and Intelligent Automobile Industry College with Sanya College.
Up to now, VREMT maintains close cooperation with 400 suppliers, and the selection of key components comes from top suppliers in the industry. Thanks to the information sharing brought by the cooperation, VREMT can quickly grasp industry trends, carry out technology research and layout, and provide more competitive industry solutions for carmakers.
Building a Sustainable Future with a Common Goal
Volvo and VREMT, of common stock, not only have a common pursuit in safety, but also share a common brand vision in the field of green mobility.
Volvo, as a synonym for automotive safety, has a deep foundation in the field of safety. Its release of the World Tree intelligent safety system demonstrates the inheritance and evolution of safety genes in the era of electrification. In the research and development and production of the EIC system, the VREMT also has safety standards that far exceed national standards. Taking the battery as an example, VREMT has established the SEA global architecture-level safety testing standard based on Volvo’s safety concept. Starting from real-life scenarios, it focuses on more than 200 safety tests, aiming to achieve full-chain safety control from product technology to testing.
In terms of green and low-carbon travel, Volvo Cars released the 2040 Environmental Plan in 2019, aiming to become a global climate-neutral benchmark enterprise by 2040. With the corporate vision of “cleaner energy, healthier world”, VREMT is committed to providing excellent sustainable energy solutions worldwide. In 2023, it released the company’s first Carbon Neutrality White Paper, announcing its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across the value chain by 2040.
In the future, VREMT will continue to adhere to safety as the foundation, deepen technological innovation, strengthen sustainable development capabilities, and enhance the resilience of the supply chain service system. We will support Volvo’s electrification transformation, jointly create a zero-emission benchmark for the automotive supply chain, promote the high-quality development of electric vehicles, and drive the green transformation of global energy consumption.
